Built out of personal frustration
WeinRadar started with a simple question we asked ourselves on a Sunday afternoon: "Which Buschenschank is open right now, nearby?" The answer should have been easy. It wasn't. Existing options were either outdated websites, scattered Google searches, or printed guides that hadn't been updated in years.
Styria has one of the richest wine tavern cultures in Europe — hundreds of family-run Buschenschänken that open and close seasonally, with varied and often unpredictable hours. Finding one that was actually open, in the right area, on that specific afternoon was harder than it should be.
We decided to build the tool we wished had existed. WeinRadar is fully owned and developed by KNEEBYTE — not a client project, but a product we believe in and continue to improve. It's also a live showcase of what we build: fast, clean, data-driven web apps that solve real problems.
A cultural treasure with no digital home
Styrian Buschenschänken are a protected cultural institution — legally defined, regulated and deeply woven into regional identity. But online, they were practically invisible. The problems were consistent and predictable:
